Malvern Community Arts Council
The Malvern Community Arts Council members are experts at promoting local art and artist to the people of Selwyn. This busy team of art enthusiasts have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and appreciation of art in all its forms. They run a community gallery (The Selwyn Gallery) in Darfield, which boasts two exhibition areas. It is here that month long exhibitions by artists across New Zealand are held in Gallery 1, while Gallery 2 is a venue for local artists to exhibit in a retail environment.
The community is further encouraged to get involved in artistic pursuits with the Malvern Community Arts Council’s array of opportunities. For those with a passion for words, the Creative Writing Awards or the Malvern Short Play Festival may appeal. If music is more your scene then Malvern Community Arts Council organise concerts and workshops. And to top off this artistic feast, the Darfield Art Week is a ten day annual event that attracts over 400 exhibits and 150 artists.
With such a busy schedule of events, the Canterbury Community Trust is pleased to donate $15,000 toward the salary for the Selwyn Gallery Arts Co-ordinator

The purpose of the Trust, which was established in 1988, is to distribute funds for charitable, cultural, philanthropic and recreational benefits in our four regions (Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the Chatham Islands) - all of which benefit our quality of life. Our donations in turn, assist thousands of people working in numerous voluntary organisations, to create their own social and cultural dividends thereby rewarding their communities.
